Tarakan Police Headquarters Attacked, Five Police Injured

TANJUNG SELOR Tarakan Resort Police Headquarters (Polres) was attacked by a group of people suspected of being members of the TNI on Monday, February 24 evening. This incident went viral on social media, showing dozens of men in striped uniforms visiting the Tarakan Police while carrying stones, wood, and iron at around 22.45 WITA.

Arriving at the location, the group immediately attacked police officers who were on guard and damaged a number of facilities inside the headquarters. The situation escalated when picket patrols arrived at the location, but clashes were inevitable.

As a result of this attack, five police officers were injured and are currently undergoing treatment at Jusuf SK Hospital, Tarakan City.

Pangdam VI Mulawarman Maj. Gen. Rudy Rachmat Nugraha through Kapendam VI Mulawarman Colonel Kav Kristiyanto confirmed the incident.

"Last night we received information that an incident occurred between members of the TNI and the Police in Tarakan. This incident is true and is currently in the process of further investigation," said Colonel Kristiyanto, Tuesday, February 25.

Pangdam VI Mulawarman has coordinated with the Kapolda Kaltara and the Commander of Korem 091 Maharalila to handle this incident. The person suspected of being involved has now been summoned and examined by the Tarakan Subdenpom.

"Currently, further investigations are still being carried out. The results will be submitted after the inspection process is complete," he added.

Regarding the motive for the attack, the TNI could not provide further information. "We do not yet know the motive because it is still under investigation," he concluded.
