In The Aftermath Of ODGJ Samson's Death, The Sukabumi DPRD Criticizes The Health Office-Dinsos Regarding Handling

Chairman of Commission II of the Sukabumi Regency DPRD, Hamzah Gurnita, criticized the performance of the Social Service and the local Health Office in an effort to handle people with mental disorders (ODGJ) in Sukabumi Regency, West Java.

"We assess that the role of the Social Service Office and the Health Office in handling ODGJ is still weak, so there are still many cases in Sukabumi Regency, ODGJ, in the family, even the last one Suherlan alias Samson, an ODGJ from Simpenan District, had to die because he was attacked by a mob," he said in Sukabumi, quoted from Antara, Monday, February 24.

According to Hamzah, this should not have happened if the Social Service and Health Office were really working and pro-active in collecting data to handling post-treatment.

So far, complaints have often arisen that the budget and human resources (HR) for handling ODGJ are minimal or less, of course, that is a classic reason even though it must be a concern when the service proposes a budget.

The Sukabumi Regency DPRD will assist in budgeting every service if it is really an emergency and requires an increase in the budget.

He also regretted the case that happened to Samson, where the ODGJ had to die tragically due to the tantrums of the masses. Of course, this case is not only a matter of crime, but also a matter of system failure in dealing with individuals as ODGJ.

The role of local governments should be more active in supervising ODGJ returning to the community, but unfortunately the supervision carried out is very weak.

Like the Samson case, the impact of the lack of supervision carried out by related agencies has resulted in unwanted things. Even though he had just returned from Marzoeki Hospital Mahdi Bogor after undergoing treatment for one month.

"After Samson is discharged from the hospital, both from the Social Service and the Health Office there is no serious effort to ensure that the patient gets further assistance and rehabilitation. There should be a program that ensures that the patient is still being monitored so as not to threaten himself or the community again," he added.

Hamzah said Samson was known as a person who disturbed residents and often caused trouble, from shouting without direction, carrying sharp weapons to committing indecent acts in public places.

However, according to him, the government's response to the situation was slow. The Social Service and Health Office should have stepped in early. ODGJ like Samson is not only a legal problem, but also a social problem.

If from the start there was serious assistance either in the form of sustainable medicine, rehabilitation or even economic solutions for his family, perhaps the situation would not end in a tragic death like this.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sukabumi District Health Office, Agus Sanusi, said that his party had tried to handle the ODGJ, especially Samson, such as referring to Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital and entrusting it to the Rehabilitation Center.

However, his party cannot carry out full supervision, the role of family and society should be very important in helping to supervise and prevent unwanted things from happening.
