BMKG: Surigae Tropical Cyclone Weakens Next 24 Hours
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the Pattimura Ambon Class II Meteorological Station said that the intensity of the Surigae Tropical Cyclone will weaken in the next 24 hours.
The head of the BMKG observation section at the Pattimura Class II Meteorological Station in Ambon, Wilhelmina Paays, said Thursday that the latest update was that the Surigae Tropical Cyclone is currently moving north-northwest away from Indonesia, and its intensity is predicted to weaken in the next 24 hours.
"The intensity of the Surigae Tropical Cyclone in the next 24 hours will weaken and move north away from Indonesian territory", he said.
He said the indirect impact of the Surigae Tropical Cyclone was the formation of wind-bending areas around Ambon Island and Seram Island.
This indirect impact, for the past few days, resulted in the growth of rain clouds in the surrounding area getting more intense.
So far, the rain and wind conditions in Ambon City have occurred due to the local activity of rain cloud growth (cumulonimbus) around Ambon Island.
This condition causes sudden rain with moderate to the heavy intensity and strong winds.
On Monday, April 19, BMKG appealed to residents to be aware of this new tropical cyclone moving to the northwest approaching the Philippines.
In a release received in Ambon, Monday, April 19, he said that the current position of the Surigae Cyclone in the Eastern Pacific Ocean of the Philippines, 13.5LU, 126.8BT (about 1,140 km north of Tahuna), was moving northwestward toward the Philippines.
BMKG predicts areas that have the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning or lightning and strong winds for a moment of more than 30 km/hour, have the potential to occur in the districts of Buru, South Buru, Ambon City, Central Maluku, West Seram, and Eastern Seram.
