Medan BBMKG Monitors The Beginning Of Ramadan In 2 Locations In North Sumatra

The Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region I Medan plans to monitor the hilal to determine the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri in two locations in North Sumatra (North Sumatra).

"The plan is for the observation of the hilal to be carried out on Friday (28/2/2025) afternoon in two different locations in North Sumatra," said BBMKG Coordinator for Region I Medan, Buha M Simanjuntak, in Medan, Sunday, February 23, quoted from Antara.

It is known that the two monitoring points are the roof of the North Sumatra governor's office on Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro, Medan, and Binasi Beach in West Sorkam District, about 60 kilometers from Pandan City, the capital of Central Tapanuli Regency.

"Usually, the hilal is monitored near the time of the maghrib. However, our team will prepare starting at 16.00 WIB until sunset," explained Buha.

He said monitoring would be equipped with special tools, including binoculars connected to information technology-based computerization systems, to maximize observations at sunset.

The results of the observations from the two points will be sent directly to the central BMKG in Jakarta.

"Yes, we will deploy two complete teams with equipment such as binoculars," said Buha.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) will hold an Isbat Session to determine the beginning of Ramadan 1446 Hijri/2025 on February 28, 2025.

This trial will be attended by various parties, ranging from representatives of Islamic organizations, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), BMKG, experts in divorce, to representatives of the DPR and the Supreme Court. The Isbat trial will take place in three stages. The first stage is the presentation of the position of the hilal based on astronomical calculations. Furthermore, verification of the results of rukyatul hilal from various monitoring points throughout Indonesia was carried out.
