A Man Jumps From The Barelang Batam Bridge, The SAR Team Holds A Search Operation

JAKARTA - The Riau Islands Rescue and Search Agency (SAR) conducted a search operation for a man who reportedly jumped from Bridge 4 Barelang, Batam City, Sunday.

The head of the Tanjungpinang SAR Fazzli said the man was named Alamsyah, who was 20 years old from Batam City.

"We received a report from the Galang Police Chief this morning at 07.25 WIB, an incident occurred in a dangerous condition for humans, a man from Batam City jumped from Bridge 4 Barelang," he said.

According to him, the young man jumped and was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday at around 01.40 WIB.

Based on the witness' narrative, he said, the man was riding a Yamaha Mio motorcycle with police number BP 5289 JJ.

The witness' testimony said the man was sitting on the edge of Bridge 4 Barelang, shortly after jumping off the bridge, Fazzli told ANTARA.

An eye witness who saw the incident immediately reported the incident to the Galang Police.

Based on the report, SAR Tanjungpinang coordinated. After that, the Batam SAR Post Rescue Team, consisting of six personnel, went to the scene using a rescue car and rubber boat as well as a mocker.

SAR operations also involve joint SAR from Polairud Polda Kepri, Polairud Polresta Barelang, Galang Police, Bhabinkamtibmas Rempang Cate, BP Batam, the community and others.

"The search was carried out until 18.00 WIB, with the results not yet found (nil)," he said.

Currently, SAR operations are temporarily closed, the joint SAR team continues with the evaluation of the first day and preparations for planning the second day of operation.

"The SAR operation will resume Monday (24/2) at 07.15 WIB," said Fazzli.
