Komdigi Reveals Possible Return Of XL Axiata And Smartfren Merger Result Spectrums

JAKARTA - Director General of Digital Infrastructure of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, said the possibility of returning the spectrum after the merger of XL Axiata and Smartfren was completed.

"There may be something returned, but we'll see first what it looks like. If it is returned, it turns out that it doesn't have value, for example from the frequency side. Then we will have the potential to lose from BHP frequency. Yes, don't take it," Wayan said when met on Friday, February 21 in Jakarta.

In addition, Wayan also said that Komdigi is currently reviewing the merger of XL Axiata and Smartfren.

Temporary results show a number of illustrations regarding the commitment to build a merger entity.

Wayan added that Komdigi has also provided a frequency utilization plan owned by the two operators in the future. He emphasized that this merger must be useful for the community as well.

Wayan also hopes that the decision on the study can be issued within the next one to two weeks, and produce principle approval.

"If possible, we want it to be faster, because they will also have to process the administration to the KPPU, to the OJK and so on. After the principle approval comes out, they will go there to solve everything," he said.

After all the processes are complete, the new entity will get a customized permit and will no longer be separated.

These permits will be published in various ways, ranging from numbering, direction of development, frequency return, to labor.

"The news is that according to friends, XL and Smartfren have no plans for phk and so on. And they have conveyed it internally," he concluded.

In December 2024, XL Axiata and Smartfren agreed to merge their subsidiaries which will become new entities called XLSmart with a value of 6.5 billion US dollars or Rp. 104 trillion.
