JAKARTA - The East Jakarta District Court sentenced six terrorists to death who were involved in the rioting and attack at the Brimob Command Headquarters (Mako), Kelapa Dua, Depok. They were found guilty of acts of terrorism.
"The results of the trial of the Terrorism case, the incident at the Mobile Brigade Command Center. All the defendants accepted and did not declare an appeal," said the Public Relations of the East Jakarta District Court, Alex Adam Faisal in his statement, Thursday, April 22.
The death sentences for the terrorist defendants were given on Wednesday, April 21. The panel of judges considered that there were no things that made them easier.
"Five police victims died and were brutally murdered. Terrorists are cases in the category of extraordinary crimes," he said.
The defendants who were given the death penalty included Anang Rachman, Suparman alias Maher, Syawaluddin Pakpahan, Suyanto alias Abu Izza, Handoko alias Au Bukhori, and Wawan Kurniawan.
There was also a terrorist attack on the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters in May 2018. At that time there was a riot and an attack that killed five policemen.
The five policemen who were in charge, among others, Briptu Extraordinary Posthumous Fandy Nugroho, Special Assistant Posthumous Specialist Yudi Rospuji, Aipda Extraordinary Posthumous Denny Setiadi, Briptu Extraordinary Posthumous Syukron Fadhli, and Briptu Extraordinary Posthumous Wahyu Catur Pamungkas.
The six defendants sentenced to death were:
1. Anang Rachman
2. Suparman alias Maher
3. Syawaludin Pakpahan
4. Suyanto alias Abu Izza 5. Handoko alias Abu Bukhori
6. Wawan Kurniawan
This incident occurred in May 2018. 155 terrorism convicts held police hostages for 39 hours. They surrendered on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Five policemen who died occurred during those two nights.
