Israel Attacks Syrian-Lebanon Border Violating Ceasefire

JAKARTA - The Israeli military launched airstrikes on Friday along the Syrian-Lebanon border, under the pretext of calling Hezbollah using the region to send weapons to Lebanon.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, February 21, the Israeli military said their army was attacking a shipping route along the Syrian-Lebanon border Hezbollah used to smuggle weapons into Lebanon, which Israel said violated the ceasefire agreement.

The latest escalation comes after a vulnerable ceasefire was agreed in Lebanon on November 27, 2024, which ended months of attacks between Israel and the Hezbollah group.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel has committed nearly 1,000 offenses, killings and injuring dozens of people in Lebanon.

On Thursday evening, Israel's daily Hayom reported that Israeli soldiers were also launching airstrikes in the Syrian city of Homs.

After the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, 2024 in Syria, Israel has launched dozens of airstrikes targeting Syrian military positions.

Israel has also expanded its occupation in the Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone and Mount Hermon, which violated the release agreement with Syria in 1974 and drew criticism from the United Nations and several Arab countries.
