KPK Investigators Squeeze The Mayor Of Tanjungbalai For Rp1.5 Billion, Fahri Hamzah: Momentum For KPK Improvements

JAKARTA - Former Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament, Fahri Hamzah, highlighted the arrest of a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator from the National Police, with the initials SR.

SR was arrested by the National Police's Professional and Security Division together with the KPK for allegedly asking for Rp1.5 billion from Tanjungbalai Mayor HM Syahrial with the lure of ending his case.

According to Fahri, the Tanjungbalai incident should be used as a momentum for the KPK to make overall internal improvements.

"To the Corruption Eradication Commission, we must use this momentum to improve the institution," Fahri said in Jakarta, Thursday, April 22.

He considered that the existence of a supervisory body seemed to make the KPK more transparent and more coordinative with other institutions. For that, it is better if the moment for internal improvement must be carried out.

"While coordinating with other institutions. Because that is the mandate of the amendment to the new KPK Law," said the Deputy Chairman of the DPN of the Indonesian Gelora Party.

Previously, Propam Polri together with the KPK arrested KPK investigators from the police with the initials AKP SR, who allegedly blackmailed the Mayor of Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra, M. Syahrial.
