MUFFEST+ 2025: Indonesia Potentially Becomes A Supplier Of Muslim Fashion Needs

JAKARTA - The 2025 Muslim Fashion Festival was officially held, Thursday, February 20, Director General of Small, Medium, and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Reni Yanita said Indonesia has the potential to become a supplier of Muslim fashion both at home and abroad.

"Indonesia itself has great potential in supplying the needs of Muslim fashion both in the domestic and foreign markets," said Reni Yanita, at the opening ceremony of the MUFFEST + 2025 in Jakarta.

Reni Yanita explained that based on data from the State of Global Islamic Economy Report in 2023-2024, Indonesia was ranked third as a country that dominated the Muslim fashion ecosystem after Turkey and Malaysia.

However, the export of fashion products to the Islamic Cooperation Organization in 2022, is still dominated by the countries CHina, Turkey, and India.

"So we only dominate in the ecosystem but we have not succeeded in becoming the top three for exports. This is also a challenge for us together on how we can optimize this large world market," he said.

According to him, with the market potential and development of the existing Muslim fashion industry, Indonesia must be optimistic that it will continue to grow, both in the domestic and global markets, one of which is by actualizing through participation in exhibition events.

Through participation in exhibitions, it can show the quality and potential of the Muslim fashion industry in Indonesia, as well as introduce the latest innovations and designs to the global market.

Furthermore, he invites all Muslim fashion business actors to continue to develop the products produced so that they can compete both in the local and global markets, and can cooperate with the domestic finished clothing industry.

"So with the growth of young designers, then we combine them with the existing fashion industry. Then participate in exhibition events," he said.

Reni Yanita explained that the Islamic economic market in the world has a great opportunity to grow in the coming year. Based on data from the State of Global Islamic Economic Report in 2023-2024, in 2027 it is predicted that consumer spending on 6 commodity sectors could reach US$3.1 trillion, compared to 2 years ago only US$2.29 trillion.

As for the 6 Islamic economic sectors which include food, fashion, media and recreation, travel, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, the Muslim fashion sector occupies the second highest position.

In addition, the consumption of Muslim fashion in the world is also predicted to grow, which in 2027 is predicted to reach 428 billion US dollars.

"So from this 3.1 trillion figure, almost 15 percent of Muslim fashion can be taken," he said.

According to him, the market potential for halal products in Indonesia is also very large. This is because almost 87 percent of Indonesia's population is Muslim and is the largest in the world.

"The production of consumption of halal goods or services in Indonesia in 2025 will reach US$330.5 billion and the clothing sector will be the second-highest sector consumed in the Indonesian sharia market," he explained.
