Hydrometeorological Disaster Emergency In Pekanbaru Extended Until The End Of March 2025

RIAU - Emergency alert status for hydrometeorological disaster management such as floods, landslides and tornadoes in Pekanbaru, Riau Province, was extended until the end of March 2025.

Head of the Pekanbaru City Disaster Management Agency (Kalaksa BPBD) Zarman Candra said this extension was following the policy of the Riau Provincial Government (Pemprov) which also extended its hydrometeorological emergency status until March 31, 2025.

"For the status (hydrometeorological disaster), we will follow the province," he said in Pekanbaru, Thursday, February 20, which was confiscated by Antara.

He conveyed that previously Pekanbaru City Government had determined the status until February 28, 2025. With this status extension, the Pekanbaru BPBD increased supervision in disaster-prone areas.

"Disaster-prone areas such as riverbanks, we will make them pay attention," said Zarman.

So far, the area in Pekanbaru City is still safe from hydrometeorological disasters. However, his party remains alert if at any time a disaster occurs considering the extreme weather is still happening.

The reason is that although the weather feels hot, the rain still falls from light to heavy intensity. Likewise with the weather predictions of the Pekanbaru Station Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, which still has rain intensity.

"However, we are still on standby if there is a disaster at any time. But so far, God willing, it is still safe, conducive," said Zarman.

Previously, the status of emergency response to hydrometeorological disasters in Riau Province was also extended until March 31, 2025. The Decree (SK) for the extension of the emergency response status for hydrometeorological disasters was signed by Riau Governor Rahman Hadi on January 31, 2025.
