Hattrick To Manchester City Goal, Mbappe Wants To Investigate Heritage In Real Madrid's New Era

JAKARTA - Kylian Mbappe said he wanted to mark his era at Real Madrid after scoring three goals in a 3-1 win over Manchester City in the second leg of the knockout phase of the Champions League on Thursday, February 20, 2025, early morning WIB.

Even so, the French player is well aware that his season must be judged based on a trophy, not a goal.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the fourth minute at the Santiago Bernabeu before adding a second goal 30 minutes later.

His third goal, after an hour, ended the game, before Nico Gonzalez scored an entertainment goal in stoppage time for Manchester City.

Real Madrid advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League on aggregate convincingly 6-3 after winning 3-2 in the first leg at the Etihad.

"I don't want to come here to play badly. Realizing my dream is one thing."

"However, I want to play well, I want to define an era, to make history at Real Madrid."

"I have to play with personality," Mbappe told Movistar, when asked how he turned his season around after a slow start.

Despite his career full of trophies, Mbappe has never won the Champions League, losing in the 2020 final while defending Paris Saint-Germain.

"The most important thing is winning trophies. I've scored a lot of goals in my career. However, let's see if it's all in vain because we don't always win trophies?"

"If I score a lot of goals and win trophies, I will sign them in blood," he said when asked if he had set a goal target for the season.

Meanwhile, Mbappe's teammate, Jude Bellingham, who started the movement and scored Real Madrid's second goal, could only admire Mbappe's dominance.

"You enter the game knowing that it will affect the game. You can give him the ball."

"Our job is to try to put the three attackers - and myself - in the best possible position."

"You know when Kylian gets the ball in the area he likes, it will be dangerous."

"It was amazing what he had done in his career. I know he started slowly."

"He's getting used to life here, but now he's moving fast and fun to watch," Bellingham said.
