Failed In The 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, Indra Sjafri Is Ready To Be Replaced

JAKARTA - The U-20 Indonesian national team coach, Indra Sjafri, admitted that he failed to accompany the team in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup. Due to this situation, he admitted that he was ready to face risks, including if it had to be evaluated and replaced from the coach's seat.

The U-20 Indonesian national team failed to qualify from the group stage of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup after only being able to collect one point from three matches.

Dony Tri Pamungkas and colleagues lost 0-3 when they met Iran U-20 in the inaugural match. After that, they lost again in the second match with a score of 1-3 against Uzbekistan U-20. In the last match when they met Yemen U-20, the Garuda Nusantara squad drew 0-0.

Indra Sjafri admitted that the record was not in line with the target of bringing the U-20 Indonesian national team to the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile. Therefore, the coach, who has been on the rise since 2012, is ready to take risks, including being kicked out of the coaching chair.

"Regarding things, for example, whether I should be evaluated, to be replaced, and so on, I completely leave it to PSSI."

"Never mind being replaced, because this is the duty of the state, whatever the risk of this failure, I am chivalrily responsible," he said in a recording after the match in China quoted on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

"So whatever, yes, it's not just a change of coach, it's tougher than that, because it's the country's job, I'm ready for that."

As is known, to be able to meet the target of entering the 2025 U-20 World Cup, the U-20 Indonesian national team had to step into the semifinals. However, in fact, Dony Tri and his colleagues were stuck in the group stage.

On the other hand, this match also made Indra Sjafri fail to repeat the moment where he was able to bring the squad into the quarter-finals in the event seven years ago.
