Indra Sjafri Apologizes After Indonesia U-20 Failed In The 2025 U-20 Asian Cup

JAKARTA - The U-20 Indonesian national team coach, Indra Sjafri, expressed his apologies and regret following the failure of the Garuda Nusantara Squad in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup.

After going through three matches in the group stage, the U-20 Indonesian national team only collected one point. The result was clearly not enough to bring Indra Sjafri's team to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup.

He then apologized for the results that did not match the expectations of the community.

"I represent the team and I personally as a trusted coach, apologize to all Indonesian people who cannot fulfill their desire to qualify for the U-20 World Cup," said Indra Sjafri through a voice recording after the match, quoted on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

Despite failing in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, Indra then explained the targets charged to him as the coach of the U-20 Indonesian national team.

"I accept this team in December 2023. In this one year, there are three targets that I have received."

"The first target is to win the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup, the second target must pass the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, and the third target must pass the 2025 U-20 World Cup," he said.

"Of the three targets, I can't take this team to qualify for the U-20 World Cup. For that, once again I apologize," said Indra.

In addition, Indra Sjafri also expressed his gratitude for the support PSSI gave him.

"Secondly, I am very grateful to PSSI for supporting all of my road maps and all of my training programs."

"Therefore, I apologize also to PSSI who have not been able to meet the target of qualifying for the U-20 World Cup," said Indra.
