BMKG Weather Forecast: Potential Rain Falls In Many Big Cities

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts major cities in Indonesia have the potential to experience rain with various intensity on Thursday, February 20.

BMKG forecaster Sentia Arianti said light rain was predicted in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, and Jambi. Meanwhile, rain with moderate intensity has the potential to fall in the areas of Padang and Bengkulu, as well as rain accompanied by lightning in Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, and Bandarlampung.

"It is predicted that light rain will occur in Serang, Jakarta and Semarang, while for Yogyakarta there will be moderate rain. Be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in Bandung and Surabaya," he said, quoted by ANTARA

In the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, BMKG predicts light rain in Denpasar and Mataram, as well as moderate-intensity rain in Kupang.

For the Kalimantan region, light rain is predicted to occur in Pontianak, Palangkaraya, and Samarinda. There is also the potential for thunderstorms to be watched out for in Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor.

Light rain also has the potential to fall in a number of cities in Sulawesi, such as Manado, Gorontalo, Palu, Kendari, Mamuju, and Makassar.

In eastern Indonesia, all major cities are forecasted to experience rain. BMKG warns of the possibility of light rain in Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayawijaya, and Jayapura. Meanwhile, moderate rain has the potential to occur in Nabire, as well as rain accompanied by lightning in Ambon and Merauke.
