IPhone 17 Pro Reportedly Tested With The Overturned Wireless Charging Feature
JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly testing the reverse wireless charging feature for the iPhone 17 Pro model that allows this device to charge other Apple accessories. This news comes from a leak from China, Instant Digital, via the Weibo platform.
According to the report, Apple is testing the 7.5W wireless charging feature on the iPhone 17 Pro. If successfully implemented, this feature can be used to charge accessories such as AirPods, Apple Watch, or even the latest MagSafe Battery Pack.
Rumors about reverse wireless charging on the iPhone have long been circulating, and it was first realized in 2021 with the release of the MagSafe Battery Pack for the iPhone 12 and a newer model. When paired with an iPhone charging via Lightning, the device can power out to the MagSafe Battery Pack. This is the first time the iPhone has been able to power other accessories.

However, Apple halted production of the MagSafe Battery Pack in September 2023 following the launch of the iPhone 15, which replaces the Lightning port with USB-C. The iPhone 15 and newer models can indeed charge inversely for Apple Watch, AirPods, and other small devices via USB-C ports with up to 4.5W power. However, the reverse wireless charging feature has not been implemented since the MagSafe Battery Pack was discontinued.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had predicted that the MagSafe Battery Pack would return in the USB-C version, but until now this has not materialized. Likewise with Mark Gurman's prediction from Bloomberg in September 2023 which said that a new version of the MagSafe Battery Pack would be "coming soon", but he also reminded not to be too hopeful.
Instant Digital confirms that although Apple is testing the reverse wireless charging feature for the iPhone 17 Pro, there is no certainty whether this feature will actually be available when the official device launches. Apple is expected to release the iPhone 17 lineup in mid-September 2025.
