HP Buys Humane AI: Dead Pin, Lost Data, What Happens Next?

JAKARTA - Humane has announced that HP will buy their AI platform. The company will soon stop selling AI Pin for $499. Humane has also reminded consumers who have bought Pin that their products will stop functioning before the end of February.

HP bought the AI Humane platform with an agreement value of 116 million US dollars (Rp1.8 trillion). Humane's first and only hardware, Humane AI Pin, will stop functioning from 12 p.m. PST on February 28, 2025, according to posts on the company's support forum. HP buys Humane intellectual property in this amount. It seems that HP has no interest in the current Humane hardware business.

According to HP, this acquisition will bring Humane's "insinyur, architect, and product innovator" into a new team called HP IQ. The company describes it as an AI innovation Laboratory focused on building a smart ecosystem across HP products and services for the future. HP purchases against Humane are much lower than expected in June last year when they sought sales of US$1 billion (Rp1.6 trillion) after selling only about 10,000 AI Pin devices.

"First of all, we thank you for being Ai Pin's initial adopter. Your support, feedback and enthusiasm have been very helpful in shaping this technology, and we are very grateful for being able to walk with you on this journey. We are writing to let you know that, from now on, we will stop consumer Ai Pin because our business priorities have shifted," Humane said in their blog post.

Suggestions for AI Pin Users

Soon, the company will stop the sale of new AI Pin consumers from Humane. Existing devices will continue to function until February 28, but they will no longer be connected to Humane servers. Your AI Pin feature will no longer include calls, messages, AI results, or cloud access, as described in the blog post.

Furthermore, the company advises AI Pin users to sync their devices via Wi-Fi and download photos, videos, and notes stored from the Center before February 28. If not done, the system will permanently delete your AI Pin Humane data on the same day.

HP will acquire some of Humane technology, including the AI CosmOS operating system. HPs can use this technology to integrate artificial intelligence features into their computers and printers.
