Government Prepares IDR 45 Trillion For Training And Placement Of Indonesian Migrant Workers
JAKARTA - Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding said President Prabowo Subianto had gradually allocated Rp 45 trillion in funds to improve the quality of training and placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).
"I was promised by Pak Prabowo Subianto Rp 45 trillion to help the training and departure of migrant workers. This fund will be distributed in stages, which is Rp 15 trillion in the first phase, then Rp 30 trillion, until finally it reaches Rp 45 trillion," said Abdul Karding, Tuesday, February 18.
According to Karding, the funds are revolving so that they can be accessed more easily by PMI candidates. He said that currently the standard of expertise requested by the destination country is increasing. Thus, the training for Indonesian migrant workers must continue to be updated.
Previously, the Indonesian migrant worker training financing scheme relied on people's business credit (KUR). However, this mechanism is considered less effective because KUR requires guarantees in the form of certification or work contracts. In fact, PMI candidates who have just registered generally do not have an official work contract.
"KUR is difficult to access because it requires guarantees. Meanwhile, PMI candidates actually need funds for training from the start of registration, not after obtaining a work contract," explained Abdul.
In addition to funding constraints, the absence of collector agents in several destination countries has also worsened the PMI training and placement system. Therefore, greater budget support is expected to overcome these obstacles.
With the Rp 45 trillion fund, it is hoped that PMI candidates can obtain better training facilities and assistance during the work placement process abroad.

"The Ministry of P2MI cannot work alone. We need support from the DPR to realize this program," said Abdul Karding.
For the record, the Ministry of P2MI is targeting the placement of 425,000 migrant workers by 2024, but 297,000 workers have realized. Of these, 80% are domestic workers.
With the improvement in the quality of training, it is hoped that Indonesian migrant workers can get jobs with higher standards in the destination country.
