An Oil Spill Was Found At The KRI Nanggala-402 Dive Site That Disappeared In Bali
JAKARTA - The KRI Nanggala-402 submarine is still being sought after losing contact in Bali waters. The air search team saw an oil spill at the starting point of the KRI Nanggala-402 diving.
"At 07.00 WIB through aerial surveillance by helicopter, an oil spill was found around the dive starting position," said a written statement from the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan), Wednesday, April 21.
KRI Nanggala-402 from the ranks of Surabaya Fleet II who lost contact while carrying out a strategic gun shooting exercise in the waters of the Bali Strait.
The KRI Nanggala, which will carry out the shooting of the North Sumatra Torpedo, asked for permission to dive at 03.00 WIB, Wednesday, April 21. After being granted a dive permit according to the procedure, the boat lost contact and could not be contacted.
In the training, KRI Nanggala brought 53 crew (49 crew members, 1 ship commander, and 3 Arsenal).
"Until now, the search is still being carried out by sending KRI Rigel from Dishidros Jakarta and KRI Rengat from the Mine Unit to assist the search using side scan sonar," continued the statement of the Ministry of Defense.
The Indonesian Navy has also sent ISMERLO distress (International Submarine Escape and Rescue Liaison officer).
Several countries have responded and are ready to provide assistance, including the Singapore Navy, the Australian Navy and the Indian Navy.
KRI Nanggala-402 was created in 1977 at HDW (Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft) Germany and joined the ranks of the Indonesian Navy in 1981.
