6 Groups Of Thieves From Sumatra Gasak Money Customers Leaving The Bank In Banyumas Arrested By Police

The police arrested six of the 14 members of a gang of thieves from Sumatra who carried out theft by attaching car tires in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java (Central Java).

"This theft took place at the Jalan Pahlawan gas station, Tanjung Village, South Purwokerto District, Banyumas, on Monday (February 3) at around 11.20 WIB," said Head of the Banyumas Police, Police Commissioner Ari Wibowo at a press conference at the Banyumas Police Reconfu Hall, Purwokerto, Tuesday afternoon, February 18, confiscated by Antara.

Ari said the police were investigating the theft case based on a report submitted by Sahirin (41), who accompanied the Chairman of the Indonesian Civil Servant Cooperative (KPRI) Setia Kawan, Akhmad Soderi, to collect money belonging to a cooperative at Bank Jateng Purwokerto Branch amounting to Rp250 million.

On the way back to the cooperative office, he said, two people riding on a motorbike overtook the car driven by the complainant from the left and one of them pointed at the rear tire.

When he pulled over in front of one of the restaurants, it turned out that the car tires were flat so that the complainant immediately took the car to the Jalan Pahlawan gas station to add nitrogen to the flat tire.

However, when Akhmad Soderi got out of the car, suddenly someone came who opened the car's middle door and immediately took a backpack containing Rp250 million in cash in the back seat.

The person was approached by a motorcycle rider, then immediately left the scene. Sahirin then reported the incident to the Banyumas Police.

"Based on the report, we immediately processed the crime scene and investigated it by collecting a number of evidences such as CCTV camera footage," said Ari.

Based on the results of the investigation, the Banyumas Police Satreskrim received information that the alleged perpetrator was in Mojolegi Village, Teras District, Boyolali Regency.

The Resmob Unit of the Satreskrim Polresta who came to Boyolali managed to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the theft on Wednesday, February 12 at around 01.00 WIB.

"During the arrest, we only found six people because eight other people were leaving so they were still being searched," said Ari.

The six perpetrators arrested consisted of MN (28), a resident of Belitang, Ogan Kemering Ulu Timur Regency, South Sumatra, who acted as jockeys for making customer money; AS (45), residents of Lubuk Alung, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, who played a role in monitoring the situation from outside the bank.

The next alleged perpetrator with the initials FD (52), a resident of Belitang, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency, acts as a supervisor in the bank to find customers who take money.

"While in the bank, FD wore civilian civil servant clothes (PNS)," he said.

According to him, another perpetrator with the initials RB (36), a resident of Ilir Barat Satu, Palembang City, South Sumatra, played a role in monitoring the situation from outside the bank; HFZ (25), a resident of Belitang, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur, who informed customers that his vehicle had flat tires; and RNP (27), a resident of Belitang, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency, acted as the executor or taker of money from the car.

In addition to bringing the six perpetrators to the Banyumas Police, his party also secured a number of evidences, including the remaining proceeds from the crime amounting to Rp1,300,000.00.

"Based on the results of the examination, they from January to February 2025 have carried out three similar actions in Central Java, namely Pekalongan Regency, Demak Regency, and attempted theft in Pemalang Regency," said the Police Chief.

Furthermore, the Head of the Banyumas Police Satreskrim, Police Commissioner Andryansyah Rithas Hasibuan, revealed the results of the examination which stated that some of the perpetrators had family ties because while they were still in Bogor, FD invited his son-in-law with the initials RB and his nephew with the initials (RNP) to come to the city.

"Initially the gathering point for these three people was in Bogor and then to Kajen, Pekalongan Regency, along with other perpetrators. In Banyumas, 14 perpetrators gathered in Baturraden," he said.

Regarding the theft case, he said the perpetrators who had been named as suspects were charged with Article 363 paragraph (1) of the 4th Criminal Code with a maximum threat of 9 years in prison.
