Green Day Live In Jakarta Review: Unbounded Energy Celebration

JAKARTA - Severe congestion in Carnaval Ancol and its surroundings presently and after the Green Day Live in Jakarta concert on Saturday, February 15 illustrates how much fans longing to see Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitars), Mike Dirnt (bass, vocals), and Tré Cool (drums) live on stage.

Since the announcement of the concert through a press conference in August 2024, it has been seen how enthusiastic fans in Indonesia are to welcome the California band. Naturally, Green Day's last visit to Jakarta took place in 1996. Apart from many fans who did not have the opportunity at that time, some were not even born into the world.

Ravel Junardy, Founder and CEO of Ravel Entertainment as promoters said that his efforts to bring Green Day to Jakarta began with his wife's request. However, in fact Billie cs's presence is not just a gift for his wife, but is a special gift for punk-rock music lovers in the country.

The series of Green Day Live in Jakarta performances opened with the appearance of Rellion Rose at around 18.30 WIB. The band from Yogyakarta appeared for 30 minutes, performing 10 songs, in front of thousands of fans who began filling the festival area.

When Rellion Rose showed his skills on stage, the Taman Impian Jaya Ancol area was already crowded with tens of thousands of people who were dominated by black clothes. Those who carry vehicles even have to park their cars and motorbikes in a fairly far area, and have to walk about 2 km to 500 meters from the venue gate of the show.

The exact number of spectators who attended was not broadcast by the promoter. However, tickets were declared to have been sold out three days before the concery in which Carnaval Ancol as the venue for the show could accommodate up to 50,000 people.

About half an hour before Green Day's schedule took to the stage, almost all spectators had entered the show area, which was divided into three categories with everyone standing free (free standing).

*The performance of Green Day* (sub-state) Billie cs goes up to the stage at exactly 20.00 WIB - opens with the screening of several classic rock and punk songs from Queen to The Ramones.

The American Dream Is Killing Me is the opening song. Without mercy, Green Day immediately appeared to crash from the start. The audience was made unable to refrain from singing.

"I want everyone to jump, everyone, from the front to the back," Billie said, inviting the audience to enjoy the show.

Performances continued with a setlist from the album 'Docoie' (1994). Green Day performed Welcome to Paradise and Longview. Some viewers don't want to waste the opportunity, they open their cell phone cameras and record the action on stage.

Seeing what was seen in front of his eyes, Billie invited his fans to enjoy the show naturally, instead of being busy with opening the device. No need for a cellphone, (you) don't need to record. It's not needed right now. Let's sing together.

Billie explained his request by continuing the show with their hit in the 1990s, 'Basket Case'. Fan favorite songs from the third album are still being played, such as She and When I Come Around.

The audience got crazier when 'Know Your Enemy' was played. Billie also invited a female audience wearing a hijab to go on stage to sing together.

It's been half an hour the show is going on, but the energy of the show is still very large. Green Day appeared with high intensity, which was replied to by the audience who were still singing when the band played Forever Now, Dilemma, 21 Guns, Minority, to Brain Stew*.

The show continued with a set from the album 'American total' (2024), Green Day's second album with the second-highest sales after 'Docoie'.

The audience immediately discovered the iconic intro of the song 'American night'. They screamed and jumped happily.

Let's go crazy, Billie shouted at the still excited audience.

Other materials from the seventh studio album that fans like were performed, such as Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Are We The Waiting, St. Jimmy, Give Me Novacaine, Letterbomb, Wake Me Up When September Ends, to Jesus of Suburbia.

When delivering the Americanmasy' list, Billie again attracted attention. He took the Red and White flag from the crowd, draped it over his body, and kissed the flag.

"Jakarta, are you guys still alive? Let me hear your screams," Billie said. This is not a party, it's a celebration.

Green Day also closed its appearance through the songs Bobby Total and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). The show lasted for 105 minutes, bringing 24 repertoire songs.

*The satisfaction in the Face of the Audience* (sub-state) Green Day performance ends with a big smile in the reasonable tens of thousands of spectators who packed the Carnaval Ancol. Although the exit is a limited area that makes the audience have to spend extra time walking long after standing for a long time The engineering of the entrance and exit routes made by the organizers is quite effective, without any significant incident.

Citing Rian D'Masiv's confession on Instagram, it took three hours to get out of the Ancol area. However, everything paid off with satisfaction watching Green Day's performance with its own eyes.

The concert beres at 10, can only come out at 1 am, and now it's just arrived home. But it's cured because Green Day is really cool! The 29-year wait paid off," Rian wrote in the caption.

Meanwhile, the Green Day concert that night was attended by audiences across generations from various regions in Indonesia. Many of them came with a maximum look like true punk-rock music fans.

A fan named Putu, even willing to come all the way from Bali to see his favorite band. He came in all black clothes, complete with a jagged belt, stocking, and boots.

'I'm special to come for Green Day. Look like this because they really like them for a long time,' said Putu.

An interesting sight can also be seen from a mother who comes with her teenage child. The child looks eccentric with brown hair with a punk style.

A male fan is also present no less attractive. Jalanda Sadzikrie from Jakarta, deliberately colored her hair to look like a Green Day frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong.

"What is clear is that his hair must be colored so that he looks like Billie Joe Armstrong. I hope he will carry a song from the album 21st Century Breakdown or Trilogy. But whatever will be played later, keep the gas! Green Day forever!" said Jawanda.

He saw the return of Green Day to Jakarta after 29 years, a historic moment for the world of Indonesian performances. With the age of today's personnel, he doesn't want to miss the opportunity to see Billie cs's performance firsthand.

"It's really enthusiasm, when will I watch Green Day, it's old, it seems like this will be the last concert (in Jakarta)," he concluded.
