Mount Lewotobi Men Eruption Again, People Asked To Be Alert

LABUAN BAJO - Mount Lewotobi Male, located in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency (Flotim), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted three times from Monday to Tuesday, February 18 morning.

Based on information issued by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the Geological Agency, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) stated that the eruption occurred at 15.58 WITA, at 16.22 WITA, and at 23.43 WITA.

In the first eruption, the height of the ash column was observed to be at 900 meters above the peak or about 2,484 meters above sea level. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the northeast.

In the statement, it is stated that this eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 14.5 mm and a duration of approximately 1 minute 42 seconds.

Furthermore, in the second eruption, the ash column was observed to be at 500 meters above the peak or about 2,084 meters above sea level. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the north and northeastern.

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 5.9 mm and a duration of approximately 1 minute 18 seconds.

In the third eruption, the height of the ash column was observed to be at 400 meters above the peak or about 1,984 meters above sea level. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the north and northeastern.

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 3.7 mm and a duration of approximately 50 seconds.

Meanwhile, currently Mount Lewotobi Male is at Level IV (Awas) Status. Therefore, the public and visitors or tourists are advised not to carry out any activities within a radius of 6 km from the central eruption and sectoral southwest - north - northeast as far as 7 km.

The community around Mount Lewotobi Male is also advised to be aware of the potential for rain lava flooding in rivers that originate at the top of Mount Lewotobi Male in the event of high-intensity rain.

In addition, the public is asked to remain calm, follow local government directions, and not believe in issues whose sources are unclear.
