MIND ID Successfully Manages Waste As Multipurpose Products
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Mining Industry Holding BUMN, MIND ID, continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable waste management by involving communities in this process.
MIND ID Corporate Secretary Heri Yusuf emphasized that together with all members of the MIND ID Group, starting from PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum, PT Timah Tbk, and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk ensure that every field in mineral resource management is carried out in a sustainable manner.
Waste management is also carried out according to applicable standards, by prioritizing collaborative practices with the community.
"For us, waste is an input that can also be increased in added value. Therefore, we are proactive in cooperating with the community so that the increase in added value and benefits can be felt by the community," said Heri, quoted on Monday, February 17.
Heri explained that one of the initiatives carried out was from Bukit Asam Tbk which provided assistance for waste destruction machines with a capacity of 50-60 tons per day to the Bukit Kancil Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra.
This machine is very helpful in managing waste in the 28.5 hectares of TPA, which receives about 70 tons of waste every day.
The impact is not only on reducing waste deposits, but also improving the quality of the environment for the surrounding community.
Meanwhile, for Inalum, as the largest aluminum producer in Indonesia, it has also succeeded in processing its bauxite waste to become building materials for public facilities.
Even the community around Inalum's operations can now take advantage of bauxite recycling products for various needs including village school renovations.
Meanwhile, PT Freeport Indonesia has successfully managed construction waste from the construction of a smelter in Gresik, East Java, through the Joint Transformation Center (PTB).
This initiative not only reduces the impact of industrial waste, but also creates new economic opportunities for the surrounding community.
Waste from the construction of smelters such as iron, wood, and other materials is used and processed by the community through the upcycling process into furniture products.
Finally, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk managed to efficiently process operational waste by carrying the concept of Zero Waste to Landfill 2050.
One of its programs is that Vale processes the lag of being a paving block for public infrastructure, helping maintain environmental balance and reducing the negative impact of waste.
