Thousands Of Dead Fish Stranded On Batubara Beach In North Sumatra
MEDAN - Thousands of fish were stranded and died on the coast of Batubara Regency, North Sumatra. The incident occurred in Kuala Indah Village, Dusun V, Sei Suka District.
In his post, the owner of the Facebook account Muhammad Afandi wrote that he saw thousands of dead fish on the coast of his village.
"Today 20 April 2021 I saw thousands of dead fish on the coast of my village, Kuala Indah," wrote the owner of the account accompanied by several photos.
"Because as a child living in a fishing village, this is a concern for me," he continued.
According to the account owner, it was impossible for the fish to die suddenly.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Batubara Regency Fisheries Service, Anton Ritonga, said that his party was reluctant to speculate about the cause of the thousands of dead fish. He will wait for the results of laboratory checks.
"If the conditions are found, the fish is dead, so we cannot predict, if we suspect what will develop (the information). Wait a minute from the lab results, we live again with water samples, then the Fisheries Service will sample the dead fish. That's the information," said Anton.
Anton Ritonga said that thousands of fish died in the estuary, which is still in the Kuala Indah Beach area, on Tuesday, April 20.
"The incident last night, the types of fish were dominated by bedukang, lundu and sembilang fish. We can conclude that these fish are estuarine fish," he said.
The Batubara Regency Fisheries Service has taken samples from the dead fish and brought them for laboratory tests.
"Today we bring the sample to the laboratory. We'll wait for the laboratory results. We can't explain why," he concluded.
