BMKG Doubts The Truth Of The Jeli Rain Phenomenon In Gorontalo

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) doubts the truth of information related to a phenomenon called observant rain in Tomilito District, North Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province.

"The validity is still in doubt," said Head of the Weather Prediction and Early Warning Team of the BMKG Public Meteorology Directorate Ida Pramuwardani in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, February 16.

Ida mengungkapkan, meskipun ada beberapa kemungkinan tetapi tidak bisa sembarang membantu, bahkan sampai saat ini pihaknya belum mendapatkan informasi yang valid atas fenomena tersebut.

"Naturally this is impossible," he asserted.

However, according to him, the BMKG team is coordinating with the Gorontalo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and contacting the owner of the video uploader social media account who mentions daily rain in North Gorontalo, to verify and if correct then the cause is studied.

BMKG hopes that the people in Gorontalo will remain calm and not be influenced by a phenomenon that is not yet certain.

Previously, it was informed that residents in Leyao Village, Tomilito Gorontalo Utara District, Gorontalo Province, Saturday (15/2) night at around 20.00 WITA were shocked by the phenomenon of rain shaped like jelly grains.

This is in line with the 28-second amateur video uploaded by the Instagram social media account @infosulawesidotcom on Sunday afternoon.

Ewan Saputra, a local villager, admitted that he and the residents were surprised that after the village was rained they found observant grains that filled the yard of their house and walk.

He mentioned that some residents were busy taking containers to accommodate turtles that looked soft and the grains felt soft as agar.

Even because he felt it was the first time he had seen the incident, he said, some other residents chose to avoid it so that it would not be directly exposed to the observant rain that occurred about 30 minutes.

"It is not yet known whether the keen grains filled the entire village or only occurred in one location in the hamlet, considering that this rare event occurred at night," he said.
