The Strokes Launches Video Series Ahead Of New Album Release
JAKARTA - Ahead of the release of the new album The New Abnormal, The Strokes launched a video series through their YouTube channel. The series is named Five Guys Talking About Things They Know Nothing About. Through this series, The Strokes personnel show the creative process when self-quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic or the corona virus.
The first episode was released today, Thursday, April 9, the day before the release of the album The New Abnormal. Using the web-chat application Zoom, the band discussed a number of things they could do for their fans.
"We hope this can distract you during the quarantine," wrote The Strokes in its YouTube description. The video series is billed as a private radio show where Julian, Albert, Fabrizio, Nick and Nikolai talk about what they did during the quarantine.
17 minutes long, the personnel did not seem to have thought much about the concept for this video series. They choose to discuss like old friends who haven't seen each other for a long time. Julian as the vocalist said The Strokes had wanted a show concept like this for a long time. However, they can only make it happen now.
The New Abnormal is the follow-up to the Comedown Machine which was released seven years ago. This band actually did not completely vacuum because they still love to fill a number of music shows including Lollapalooza.
The process of making this album has also been started since 2016 after the mini album (EP) Future Present Past. The Strokes felt that making the album was slow but steady.
The New Abnormal will feature a side of The Strokes that fans have long missed. It is known, this album was written and produced by The Strokes himself and Julian who held a lot of lyric writing.
In March, The Strokes released two music videos for this album, At The Door and Bad Decision. Both of these songs have indie rock elements which are the main characteristics of The Strokes.
Towards the end of the first episode of The Strokes video, they promise the next episode that contains the latest album reviews. The New Abnormal is rated 4/10 by NME and The Independent, who consider this album to be the adult form of The Strokes transformed from rebellious adolescence.
