Meta Will Develop AI-backed Humanoid Robot
JAKARTA After cropping thousands of workers, Meta plans to focus on investing and developing humanoid robots. To achieve this, Meta will set up a new division.
This division will become a Reality Labs unit. The focus is on creating a humanoid robot with artificial intelligence (AI) power, according to an internal memo revealed by Reuters. The robot is designed to help with physical tasks, but it's not yet clear what it looks like.
Di memo tersebut, Kepala Teknologi Meta, Andrew Bosworth, mengatakan bahwa tim baru ini akan fokus pada penelitian dan pengembangan robot humanoid.
The team will involve the AI Llama model with the aim of 'maximizing the capabilities of the Llama platform'.
Llama is the basic model of AI developed by Meta. This AI model supports a range of generative AI products integrated into various products and social media. That way, Meta can add Meta AI to the platform.
"We believe the expansion of our portfolio to invest in this field will only add value to Meta AI and our mixed and added reality programs," Bosworth said on Friday, February 14, 2025.
The head of technology also revealed who members of the humanoid robot division at the Reality Labds.
The group will be led by former Cruise CEO Marc Whitten specifically recruited by Meta as Vice President for Robotics.
The development of humanoid robots is a very big plan and a challenge for Reality Labs.
The robotics of humanoids is very competitive and not all companies can develop robots capable of performing human duties.
Meta may be able to compete with other well-known companies as the company continues to encourage AI-backed product innovation.
The company has even succeeded with smart glasses that are also integrated with Meta AI.
