Completed, Wastewater Processing System In Jambi City Ready To Be Inaugurated

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the Central Domestic Waste Management System (SPALD-T) in Jambi City in order to improve sanitation services.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of the Central Domestic Waste Management System aims to improve better environmental quality, especially in urban areas in line with the increasing population.

"We hope that the construction of SPALD-T can improve community sanitation services and reduce environmental pollution due to domestic wastewater that is dumped directly into rivers and land," said Dody in a written statement, quoted on Saturday, February 15.

Sanitary problems, especially domestic waste water, are still a challenge in several parts of Indonesia, one of which is in Jambi Province.

Liquid and solid household waste can cause environmental pollution (land and water), damage the water ecosystem, and have an impact on human health.

In helping to overcome these challenges, the Ministry of Public Works built a Central Domestic Waste Management System (SPALD-T) in Jambi City which is part of the Metropolitan Sanitation Investment Project (MSMIP) Program. SPALD-T Jambi City has a capacity of 7,600 cubic meters per day with a potential service reaching 10,300 house connections (SR).

This SPALD-T serves two large sub-districts in Jambi City, namely Pasar District and East Jambi District. Currently, the processing waste water volume is 750 cubic meters per day with a total service of 388 SR consisting of 360 SR and 28 other connections, such as offices, schools, hotels and commercial areas.

The waste water produced from the service area is channeled through a pipeline network of approximately 36.8 kilometers to the Wastewater Processing Installation (IPAL) building or Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with a pump and gravity system.

Then, it is processed using the Moving Bed Biofilm Reaktor (MBBR) technology, which is a biological wastewater treatment technology that is included in the attractor group. The new processed water is thrown into the water body after meeting the water quality standard.

The construction of the Jambi City SPALD-T began to be carried out by the Jambi Regional Settlement Infrastructure Agency (BPPW) of the Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of Public Works since 2020 and is ready to be inaugurated.

The construction work for the Jambi City SPALD-T building was divided into 3 packages of activities, namely 2 packages of Waste Water Pipeline Network with service providers PT Waskita Karya and PT Adhi Karya completed in mid-2024.

Meanwhile, for 1 WWTP (IPAL) work package with contractor PT Brantas Abipraya-Meminontec (KSO) has been operating since early 2024.

Meanwhile, the Jambi City SPALD-T does not only serve domestic waste water through the piping network, but also serves non-pipeline domestic waste water (mixing).

Thus, this SPALD-T also functions as a Tinja Mud Processing Installation (IPLT) with a capacity of 100 cubic meters per day.
