East Kalimantan Police Arrest Man In Berau Bringing 21 Kilograms Of Methamphetamine From Malaysia

BALIKPAPAN - Polda East Kalimantan (Kaltim) arrested two men with the initials SZ and Z in Berau Regency for carrying 21 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from Malaysia.

"Initially Saturday (8/2), there were reports from the public regarding drug transactions around a hotel in Berau Regency," said Director of Drug Investigation at the East Kalimantan Police, Police Commissioner Arif Bastari, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 13.

Armed with reports and characteristics of the perpetrators, Sunday (9/2), the Opsnal Sub-Directorate II team of the Narcotics Directorate of the East Kalimantan Police conducted surveillance at the location, at around 13.00 WITA saw two men suspected according to reports from the public using cars.

"The perpetrators used cars, were immediately stopped and personnel found 21 packs of methamphetamine weighing 21,117 grams or 21 kilograms in a car stored in two backpacks and one cloth bag," he explained.

Personnel from the Opsnal Sub-Directorate II of the Narcotics Directorate of the East Kalimantan Police immediately arrested the two men and confiscated evidence, then conducted an examination and found out the initials SZ and Z. Both admitted that the drugs were brought from Malaysia via North Kalimantan (Kaltara) using small fast boats.

Drugs were delivered by small boats, some picked them up before being delivered to East Kalimantan, and the wages given to SZ and Z were Rp. 100 million if both of them managed to deliver the methamphetamine which would be circulated in East Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

If the 21 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine that was confiscated was assumed to have been consumed by five kilograms, continued Arif Bastari, it is estimated that the National Police managed to save 105,000 people from the impact of drugs.

The East Kalimantan Regional Police also succeeded in uncovering two other police reports regarding drugs, including the Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Police, Senior Commissioner Yuliyanto, apart from Berau Regency.

East Kalimantan Police personnel arrested a man with the initials TM and a woman with the initials AR in Samarinda City on January 25, 2025, and confiscated 638 grams of crystal methamphetamine as well as 10 ecstasy pills from the two perpetrators.

On January 30, 2025 in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Police personnel arrested the man with the initials H and confiscated 154.53 grams of crystal methamphetamine as well as 15,977 ecstasy pills from the perpetrator who had been hiding and throwing evidence in the bathroom.

The perpetrators of drug abuse and trafficking are threatened with imprisonment for at least six years and a maximum of 20 years or life.
