Bengkalis Police Reveals 90 Kilograms Of International Network Methamphetamine

The Bengkalis Police, Riau, revealed a case of circulating 100 packs of international narcotics with evidence consisting of 90 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 10 packs of ecstasy pills.

Bengkalis Police Chief AKBP Budi Setiawan, Thursday said the two suspects with the initials B (35) and I (21) were arrested. According to him, the perpetrators were not the first time they had carried out this action.

"This perpetrator has committed this act more than once, 90 packs of methamphetamine are estimated to weigh up to 90 kg with an estimated value of tens of billions of rupiah," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 13.

The disclosure of this case is the result of a collaboration between the Sus Elang Malaka Team of the Narcotics Detective Unit and the Bengkalis Police Forbidden Drugs, the Bukit Batu Sector Police, and Bengkalis Customs. The arrests were made on Wednesday (12/2) night at around 22.00 WIB in Sepahat Beach, Bandar Laksaman District, Bengkalis Regency.

In this operation, the two suspects were suspected of being couriers in charge of carrying narcotics from abroad to be circulated in the Bengkalis area and its surroundings. The disclosure of this case, he continued, is proof of the seriousness of law enforcement officers in eradicating narcotics trafficking.

"This case is the result of good cooperation between the Bengkalis Police and Bengkalis Customs and Excise. We will continue to investigate this network and ensure that the perpetrators are punished in accordance with applicable law," he said.

In addition to narcotics, officers also confiscated a number of other evidences, including two cell phones and a "speedboat" unit along with a 85 PK machine suspected of being used to smuggle these illicit goods.

The suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph (2) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. They face severe penalties, including the possibility of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
