Not Only BRICS, Prabowo Wants Indonesia To Join OECD
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia's desire to join as a full member of the OECD and other economic cooperation forums.
The President, during a speech at the World Governments Summit 2025, said that this desire was Indonesia's effort to be non-block and not sided with any group.
"This (non-block) approach guides Indonesia's participation in many international organizations. Not only BRICS, we also apply to join as members of OECD, CPTPP, and the Indo-Pacific Forum," President Prabowo said while speaking at the multilateral forum via a video conference connection from his residence in Hambalang, West Java, Thursday, February 13, reported by ANTARA.
The President continued that the cooperation forums are believed to prioritize the spirit to have equal dialogue, and avoid various conflicts.
For the President, Indonesia's stance is a reflection of Indonesia's active free politics that does not side with one particular strong group, including groups led by the United States or China.
"We try to listen to as much as we say, establish partnerships based on trust, and respect each other," said the President.
President Prabowo also emphasized his desire to strengthen Indonesia's role in maintaining stability in the region, as well as becoming a bridge between developed countries in the northern part of the world (Global North) and developing countries in the southern hemisphere of the world (Global South).
In order to realize this, the President said that Indonesia must first maintain stability in the country.
"We have to do our own homework. Our capabilities and influence in the international community, including our contribution to global stability related to our strength, our own resilience, as well as the economic progress and social welfare of our nation and people," said Prabowo.
