Can Be Accessed By 5-Year-Old Children, This Is The Reason Why Komdigi Limits The Age Of Social Media Users
JAKARTA The age limit for children in playing social media has become a hot topic in recent months. This new policy is being prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi).
By setting the age limit for children to access social media, it is hoped that platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, or X can further limit their young users. This is a concern because the percentage of children who access the internet is increasing.
At the TikTok Teen Safety Campaign 2025 event, Hastuti Wulanningrum as the representative of the Directorate General of Public Communication and Media revealed that access to the internet is getting more and more terrible. The reason is, children under 13 also play the internet.
Based on BPS data in 2021, children aged five years and over in Indonesia have access to social media. The percentage reaches 88.99 percent. The user figure may have increased because the data was taken four years ago.
"Well, this is 5 years and over it's a bit scary, huh. So, what he has access to, of course, we as parents must be able to understand, we can rely on," said Tuti on Thursday, February 13.
According to Hastuti, this level of social media users needs to be considered, especially for teenagers. There are many digital challenges that internet users will face, especially young people who still can't control themselves and can sometimes get carried away by bad currents.

Young people are vulnerable to cyberbullying, hoaxes and disinformation, exploitation and online crimes, as well as mental health disorders if they play social media without being accompanied by their parents. Therefore, Komdigi focuses on age restrictions.
"The role of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, especially from the Director General of Public Communication and Media, is currently reviewing regulations and policies on the age limit for social media users," said Tuti. "The task force must be strictly tightened."
Although children will complain about the restrictions set by the government and related platforms, this rule is needed so that teenagers can still access social media safely. It is not yet known when the age limit for playing social media will be inaugurated.
