The New Face Of Kampung Madani Bersinar In Riau, From The Red Zone Of Drugs To The Center For Coffee Tourism
JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia launched a Coffee World Tour in Madani Bersinar Village, Kuning Face Village, Batam City, Riau Islands.
This program is a form of community development to improve the economy, welfare, and create an environment that is free from the influence of drugs.
In addition to economic development through coffee tourism, the people of Madani Bersinar Village also get access to free health checks. Regular health checks have many benefits, including detecting diseases from an early age, monitoring health conditions, and increasing awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
This program is expected to be able to maintain the physical and mental health of residents, especially for those who are undergoing the rehabilitation process.
The head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency, Police Commissioner General Martinus Hukom, explained that the Madani Bersinar Village has a deep philosophical value.
The name Madani comes from the word Madina, which refers to the order of social life exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad SAW in Madina City. This is a symbol of positive changes in the community," said Martinus during his inauguration, as quoted by ANTARA.
Previously, this area was known as a drug village because of rampant drug transactions and abuse. However, since July 19, 2024, BNN RI has declared the village as a Clean Village for Drugs (Bernar). In November 2024, the Riau Islands Regional Police and other stakeholders launched several neighborhood units in the area as Madani Village.

Martinus added that the World Coffee Tourism program is a tangible form of the government's presence in empowering the community as well as breaking the chain of drug trafficking. "One of the main goals is to solve community problems that used to be a hotbed of drug trafficking," he said.
In this program, the community is trained in coffee mixing skills and given business facilities such as carts and coffee raw materials. "This training aims to improve entrepreneurial skills and provide positive activities so that they do not get trapped in the circle of drug trafficking again," explained Martinus.
The Regional Secretary of the Riau Islands Province, Adi Prihantara, stated that this program is a new hope for the negative stigma change in Aceh Village.
"This launch is an extraordinary effort to clear the name of the village and turn it into a productive and drug-free village," said Adi.
The Riau Islands Provincial Government also supports providing additional services, including free health checks. This service helps people maintain their physical and mental health, while preventing various diseases that may arise due to an unhealthy lifestyle.
As an initial stage, seven coffee booths are managed by community groups, each consisting of three people. Tourists can enjoy special concocted coffee while getting to know the history of the Shining Madani Village and its struggle against drug trafficking. With the collaboration between local economic development and public health, the Madani Bersinar Village is expected to be an example of successful positive social transformation.
