Marty Friedman Claims To Be Out Of Megadeth In An Unfavorable Way
JAKARTA - Marty Friedman with Megadeth seems still difficult to separate. Although he has been out of the band for more than two decades and focused on a solo career, it is undeniable that the 62-year-old guitarist has many stories throughout his time as a Los Angeles band member.
In an interview with the WRIF Meltdown of Detroit radio station some time ago, Friedman talked about his reasons for leaving Megadeth, which he told in his autobiography book.
"I really lost (wards the end of my tenure with Megadeth), and I never really talked about this, because after I left Megadeth, I stopped doing interviews about Megadeth at all, and I put it in any contract related to live performances or anything else," Friedman said.
"And I've been doing this for 23 years. But in autobiography, it's a big part of my history, so now it's time to talk about things that actually happen in detail and honestly and with respect to that time period and respect for the people in the band and the people around the band, talk about our managers and crew, and of course the band members and my relationship with them."
When he read his autobiography book, Friedman said, he didn't make himself look good. He claimed to have left Megadeth in a bad way.
"Of course, I have absolutely no choice to do what I did, and you will know the reason. But I feel really bad about the way I left the band and the situation I was in. And you can see it in the book, why everything is like that. And there's no reason for what I did, but it's not going to happen in any other way. Everything happens and that's what happens. So now you'll finally read it from the source. That's how it is, "said the guitarist.

"I think this is interesting. It's definitely not something I'm happy about. But, of course, I'm very happy to leave the band and I'm capable of doing things that go far beyond my time in the band. And the band has done amazing things when I'm absent, so I think everyone wins. But at that time, it wasn't fun for anyone, and I think that's what makes the reading interesting, "continued Friedman.
When asked about the two shows he played with Megadeth in 2023 three years after leaving the band in Budokan, Tokyo, Japan and then at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany, Friedman admitted that the performance gave him a little bit of personal calm.
"Yes. Especially the Budokan show in Japan, it's one thing that still haunts... I leave the band, it's all over, and we all go on to do our own things and achieve our own great success, but when you're in a band, especially Megadeth at the level we reached at that time, there's a bond there that's in a bit deeper than family. And we all know, especially Dave Mustaine and me, we all know that the desire to play with Megadeth, plays with Budokan. It's like one of the childhood dreams, "he said.
So, when we both had the opportunity to play together, it was a big celebration. Being there was a big thing, and they got there without me. So I'm proud of them for doing that, and I'm honored to be asked to play there with them. It was a celebration of what I've done, and also a big celebration of Megadeth's success without me. So I'm their biggest supporter and happy to be there. And it's kind of a love letter to the fans and a celebration for us. So it's really closing."
