Manchester United Is Considering Layoffs

JAKARTA - Manchester United are considering further pruning the club staff.

The Red Devils have previously laid off 250 employees during last summer as part of various cost cuts measures introduced following the arrival of Sir Jim Radcliffe as the club's minority shareholder.

Reports show 100 other staff are at risk of losing their jobs. Manchester United insists a final decision has not been made.

However, all options are still available as the club seeks to counter what is internally described as a challenging long-term finance picture.

Manchester United has reported a loss of 300 million pounds over the past three years.

Another cost cut step introduced under Ratcliffe includes ending the role of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The club also declined to rule out the possibility of raising ticket prices in a bid to increase revenue.

There has been strong criticism from supporters for the decision to increase match ticket prices to 66 pounds.

In January 2025, the club wrote a letter to fan groups explaining what they called difficult choices.

"If we don't act now, we are threatened with failing to comply with PSR/FFP (Financial Fair Play) requirements," Manchester United said in the letter.

"Currently we suffer significant losses every year with a total of more than 300 million pounds in the last three years. This is unsustainable."

"We have to make some difficult choices. That includes significant labor reductions and cuts in many areas of spending across our clubs."
