Concrete Eruption Throughout The Day, The Status Of Mount Ibu Malut Is Still On Standby

JAKARTA - Mother in West Halmahera, Maluku UtarGununga is still on Alert status (Level III) after being detected again by the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) this Wednesday.

Volcano monitoring post officer from the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Rivaldi Hasan in a statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday, said that the column of ash vomited by Mount Ibu was observed to be gray with thick intensity to the southeast from the top.

The eruption activity was recorded on the Mount Ibu monitoring post seismograph in Gam Ici Village, West Halmahera at 17.53 WIT, and has a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and is 69 seconds long.

At least in the last 17 hours or since early this morning at 04.43 WIT, Mount Ibu has experienced 10 eruptions.

Based on the observations of the Geological Agency officers, it is known that the largest eruption of Mount Ibu today occurred at around 16.35 WIT which ejected eruptive ash approximately 1,000 meters above the peak of approximately 1 minute 14 seconds.

However, the Geological Agency is still setting Mount Ibu on Alert status. For this reason, the surrounding community, including tourists, are also still prohibited from doing activities within a 4 kilometer radius and the sectoral expansion is 5 kilometers to the crater opening in the north of the active crater of Mount Ibu.

The Geological Agency considers this recommendation important to be guided by people and tourists in West Halmahera, especially those around Mount Ibu so that they avoid unexpected impacts, considering the activities of Mount Ibu which still do not show normal conditions.

For information, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) ensured that the West Halmahera Regency Government had previously formed a task force team (task force) to tackle the eruption of Mount Ibu.

The task force team is on standby to carry out a series of countermeasures such as evacuation, assistance to meeting the needs of residents within the reach of the Mount Ibu eruption, such as in the Tabaru District and Ibu District, West Halmahera when volcanic activity is detected to have increased.

This is as the Task Force Team did when Mount Ibu erupted and threw volcanic ash as high as 4,000 meters into the air from its peak in mid-January 2025.
