Indonesia Officially Imports 117,000 Tons Of Beef And Buffalo

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has issued approval for imports of 117,000 tons of beef and buffalo. This importation is carried out in order to meet the needs during fasting and Eid Al-Fitr 2025.

The Director General of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade Iqbal Shofan Shofwan said that the import agreement (PI) for beef and buffalo had been issued a few days ago.

For your information, the import plan that has been set by the government is 280,000 tons. Consisting of beef as much as 100,000 tons, buffalo 100,000 tons are assigned to Food SOEs. Meanwhile, the remaining 80,000 tons are imported beef for general business actors.

The assignment was agreed upon at a Limited Coordination Meeting (Rakortas) chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan on Thursday, February 6.

Zulhas, as he is familiarly called, said that the assignment was a step to maintain the balance of availability and price of strategic food commodities ahead of the 2025 National Religious Holidays (HKBN).

"This assignment is carried out taking into account the increase in cases of Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) triggered by the rainy season," said Zulhas.

Zulhas hopes that the assignment to this Food SOE can limit the potential for the spread of PMK because the government can monitor the imports carried out more strictly.
