The European Union Promises To Cut AI Regulations For Tech Companies

JAKARTA The European Union Regulators plan to reduce their regulations regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support technology companies. This plan was conveyed at the AI summit in Paris, France.

Hundreds of countries attended the AI Summit Action aka the AI Action Summit, including the European Union. A number of office holders were seen attending the event, including French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron urged AI investment in the European Union, particularly in France. In the midst of strict AI restrictions, Macron also stated that he wanted to simplify AI regulations in his country so that companies in Europe were able to compete with other countries.

"We will simplify it," Macron said, quoted by Reuters on Tuesday, February 11. "It's very clear that we have to resync with other countries in the world."

Complaints about the strict AI rules in the European Union have been submitted by a number of large companies, especially Alphabet which houses Google. CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the ecosystem and adoption of AI are developing in France.

To encourage technological innovation in the country, AI regulations need to be considered by office holders. Therefore, the Head of Digital Union of the European Union Henna Vikkunen expressed his support for simplifying business-friendly AI rules.

Vikkunen promised that they would simplify AI rules in the European Union. The official also plans to implement AI rules that are more profitable for business innovation in Europe or not hinder the development of tech companies.

"I agree with the industry that at this time we must also review our regulations, that we have too many overlapping regulations," said Virkkunen. "We will cut the bureaucracy and administrative burdens of our industry."
