Meeting At The DPR, Deputy Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs Proposed For The Sea And Coast Guard Formation
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister (Wamen) Coordinator for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), Lodewijk F Paulus proposed the formulation of a draft law (RUU) on Maritime Security to regulate Indonesian water management.
This was conveyed by Lodewijk in a joint meeting with Commission I of the DPR and the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra which was held at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 11.
"We need a special regulation that is single and integrative in nature to regulate governance at sea, first, it is necessary to formulate a draft law on maritime security," said Lodewijk.
"Why is this? In order to create a comprehensive marine security system according to the theme that was conveyed to us," he continued.

In addition, the former Deputy Speaker of the DPR also recommended the establishment of a Sea and Coast Guard to secure the Indonesian sea. He considered that the marine security agency (Bakamla) could be merged into a Sea and Coast Guard.
"Secondly, it is necessary to form a Sea and Coast Guard, so don't Bakamla anymore, the sea and coast guard of Indonesia as the leading sector that has the task and authority to coordinate law enforcement at sea, maintain security and safety according to the level of ability provided," said Lodewijk.
"Don't think that it will only be coordination, later it won't be a coast guard that comes out, but a Bakor kamla, even though the Bakor kamla has been evaluated, it can't or doesn't work properly," he continued.
According to Lodewijk, the Sea and Coast Guard must later be given the authority to enforce the law that occurs at sea.
"Finally, given the authority and responsibility of the Sea and Coast Guard Indonesia for law enforcement at sea, given the authority that I now say they do not have," said the Golkar Party politician.
