This Is Glenn Fredly's Contribution To The Indonesian Entertainment Industry
JAKARTA - The name Glenn Fredly cannot be separated from all of his contributions to the Indonesian music scene. With a career since 1995, Glenn made a lot of efforts to advance this industry. However, yesterday, Wednesday, April 8, this Ambonese singer died of meningitis.
Even though we have left this world, but Glenn's works remain in our minds. Not only during his solo career, but also with the myriad of contributions he made with a number of musicians.
One of them, Trio Lestari. This trio is a group formed by Glenn with Tompi and Sandhy Sondoro. In addition to having spawned a mini album (EP) entitled Wangi in 2014, this group is known to recycle hits with their singing style, including Nurlela and Sakitnya Di Sini.
Glenn has collaborated with Indonesian musicians, namely Yura Yunita, Ariel Tatum, Amy Mastrura, Barry Likumahuwa Project and others. Adu Rayu, a duet with Tulus and Yovie Widianto, became popular throughout 2019. One of Glenn's wishes before he died was to make this song into a big screen version.
The singer who was born on September 30 also created a Green Music Foundation with the Save Mentawai program after the tsunami in Mentawai in 2010. He and Angga Dwimas Sasongko wanted a smart house to become a foundation for families and children in the area to come back to life.
Glenn Fredly together with the new musicians inaugurated the FESMI (Federation of Indonesian Musicians Union) on March 9 where Glenn acted as its general secretary. Glenn et al hopes that FESMI will provide inclusive training in the form of song writing and soft skills as well as a means of supporting the economy for Indonesian musicians.
M Bloc Space is another of Glenn Fredly's achievements in the Indonesian entertainment industry. How could it not be, Glenn and his friends built this collective space in Blok M as a means of conveying creativity and at the same time arousing an artistic culture as before.
Meanwhile, Visinema Pictures' Letter from Prague was producer Glenn's debut in the big screen industry. Four of his songs are also the inspiration for the storyline of the film directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko and starring Julie Estelle and Tio Pakusadewo.
Angga is again working with Glenn as a producer for the film Cahaya Dari Timur: Beta Maluku. His story relating to conditions and situations in Indonesia inspired Glenn to make the song Tinggikan as the soundtrack for this film.
Regarding the soundtrack of the film, several of Glenn's songs have also graced a number of Indonesian films such as Rectoverso, Cinta Silver, Filosofi Kopi, and most recently Twivortiare.
It will not be finished if you mention one by one the list of Glenn Fredly's contributions in an effort to elevate the Indonesian entertainment industry. Even though he is gone for good, his thoughts and works will still be remembered. Goodbye, Glenn Fredly.
