Elon Musk Wants To Buy OpenAI IDR 1,593 Trillion, Sam Altman: No, Thank You

JAKARTA - Elon Musk has made an offer of 97.4 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp1,593 trillion, to take over the company behind ChatGPT's success, namely OpenAI.

The Wall Street Journal report even found that a group of investors led by Musk's xAI had made an offer that was not requested to the company's board of directors on Monday, February 10.

The group is said to want to buy a non-profit that controls OpenAI's non-profit division. "It's time for OpenAI to return to being an open source force that focuses on security forever like it used to be," Musk said through his lawyer to The Journal.

However, in a recent post X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote a sentence that seemed to answer the news regarding the offer from the SpaceX owner.

"No, thank you, but we will buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want," wrote Altman on Musk's social media platform.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is getting closer to its first artificial intelligence (AI) chip design completion in an effort to reduce its dependence on Nvidia.

A source revealed that the ChatGPT creation company will send the chip design to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) in the next few months for the fabrication process.

The AI chip is designed to strengthen OpenAI's position in negotiations with other chip suppliers, including Nvidia, which currently dominates the market with a share of about 80 percent.
