Sandy Walsh Expresses Reasons For Joining Yokohama Marinos: Because Of The Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team player, Sandy Walsh, officially joined Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos on Sunday, February 9, 2025. No longer playing on European soil, Walsh then revealed his reasons for trying out his career in Asia.

In a video interview with Status Pro on Instagram, Sandy Walsh said that his decision to choose a career in Japan was due to his love for Asia. This was also revealed after experiencing the experience of defending the Indonesian national team.

"Love for Asia has grown more and more. Thank you for being able to play with the Indonesian national team."

"I am proud to be Asian. Proud to be half Asian. I feel Asian roots," Sandy Walsh was quoted as saying by Status Pro on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

"I want to come to Asia and maybe start at the highest level, by getting this opportunity in the J1 League (Japanese Main League), the ambitions and goals I have wanted."

"So, very happy that I had this opportunity for years in Asia," he said.

After officially becoming part of Yokohama Marinos, Walsh also has positive ambitions at his new club.

He hopes to adapt quickly and get playing minutes as soon as possible.

"So, his ambition is to adapt quickly to get playing time. I want to be able to show my game in the J1 League as soon as possible," Sandy Walsh said.

Regarding his decision to leave KV Mechelen in Belgium or Europe and join Yokohama Marinos in Asia, Sandy confirmed that it was not a difficult decision.

"It's not difficult. I'm used to change and adaptation. I've always wanted to play abroad."

"When this opportunity came, I immediately took it with great pleasure," he said.

Furthermore, Sandy Walsh also expressed his enthusiasm for joining the J1 League, which is Japan's top level competition.

"Very excited. J1 League has always been a big competition. I want to play here."
