Ministry Of Foreign Affairs: Today The Body Of An Indonesian Citizen Victim Of A Shooting In Malaysia Is Returned To Medan
JAKARTA - Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha confirmed that the repatriation of Indonesian citizens with the initials VMSM who were victims of shootings in Malaysia will be carried out on Tuesday 11 February.
"The VMSM body, which died after being treated at Idris Shah Serdang Hospital since January 24, 2025, will be repatriated on February 11, 2025 from Kuala Lumpur to Medan," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha, quoted by ANTARA Tuesday, February 11.
Arriving in Medan, the body will be immediately taken to a residence in Pollung Village, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra.
Previously, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur admitted that it had difficulty verifying the identity of the deceased because there was no identification document at all on him. However, through biometric tracing and cooperation with KP2MI to track the family, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs succeeded in verifying the VMSM identity.
After the identity was verified, the body was handed over by the Malaysian authorities to the Indonesian Embassy on Monday (10/2). The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur immediately took steps to speed up the repatriation of the bodies starting from the burial process to the document administration process.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the incident is still being carried out by the Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM), including examining six officers from the Malaysian Maritime Authority Agency (APMM) who were involved in the incident by imposing charges of violating the 1960 Firearm Deed.
Referring to the statement of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the results of the investigation will be submitted to the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
