Pekanbaru Police Have Arrested The Thief Of The Tembaga Tugu Zapin Plate
PekanbarU - Pekanbaru City Police, Riau Province arrested a man with the initials EDC (20) who allegedly stole a copper plate from Tugu Zapin who is an icon of the province on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Pekanbaru.
Head of the Pekanbaru Police Criminal Investigation Unit Kompol Bery Juana Putra said EDC was secured the day after he took action on Friday night (7/2).
"We managed to secure the perpetrator along with evidence in the form of copper plates and a white sack used to carry stolen goods," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 10.
When secured, the perpetrator was found to have brought a sack containing stolen copper. When questioned, he admitted that he had taken a copper plate from Tugu Zapin.
The young man from Tenayan Raya Subdistrict reasoned that he took the copper plate for daily needs. As a result of his actions, the suspect is now being held at the Pekanbaru Police Headquarters and charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code on theft with weight.
"We are still investigating this case to find out if any other perpetrators were involved," added Kompol Bery.
The Zapin Monument itself is one of the cultural icons of Pekanbaru City which is located in the city center. This monument depicts Zapin dance, a traditional dance typical of Malay which is closely related to Riau culture.
The statue of a pair of dancers wearing traditional Malay clothes seems to have been covered by black cloth to cover up damage here and there as a result of many of his parts being stolen by thieves.
