European Commission: There Is No Reason For Imposing US Tariffs For European Union Exports

JAKARTA - The European Commission insists there is no justification behind the potential for imposing tariffs by the United States on EU steel and aluminum, warning that the move would violate the law.

"Europe does not see any reason for imposing tariffs on its exports. We will take steps to protect Europe's business, workers and consumer interests from baseless actions," the European Commission said.

According to the European Commission, in general, the imposition of tariffs will violate the law and be economically detrimental, especially given the highly integrated production chain between the European Union and the US through trade and trans-Atlantic investment.

The European Commission further emphasized that by implementing the tariff, the US would actually burden its own citizens, increase costs for businesses, and trigger inflation.

"In addition, tariffs also increase economic uncertainty and disrupt the efficiency and integration of the global market," the European Commission said in a statement.

The European Commission also noted that until now it has not received an official notification regarding the imposition of additional tariffs on European Union goods.
