Home Affairs Minister Tito Asks Not All Papuan Human Resources Are Directed To Become Civil Servants

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian reminded that not all indigenous Papuan human resources should be directed to become civil servants. The people of Cendrawasih Island should also be encouraged to become entrepreneurs.

Moreover, according to Tito, the potential for natural resources in Papua is so abundant and can be used to survive.

"The local community can be encouraged to become entrepreneurs, cooperate with other residents to exploit natural resources, and carry out other businesses," Tito said as quoted in his written statement, Tuesday, April 20.

To encourage this, Tito said vocational education was needed, including polytechnics.

"Although several places in Papua province have universities, certain areas are not yet available," he said.

"This makes the human development index distance between regions fairly far," he added.

Tito admitted that he had conveyed this to the Minister of Education and Culture for his support. Not only that, the former National Police chief also asked that the programs that were to be implemented could provide affirmation for the acceleration of the development of indigenous Papuan human resources.

This is inseparable from Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province which mandates the affirmation to strengthen indigenous Papuan human resources by paying attention to quality.

"Or another word, not because it was forced, but because of good quality, such as the recruitment of civil servants, military / police," he concluded.
