Members Of The House Of Representatives As Press Values And Citizens Successfully Collaborate To Guard Public Issues

JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives Muhammad Khozin, in commemorating National Press Day (HPN) 2025, said that the press in the digital era is currently successfully collaborating with internet citizens (citizens) in guarding public issues.

"Pers and internet residents work hand in hand to guard public issues. This situation is healthy for our democracy," said Khozin in Jakarta, Sunday.

As a former journalist, he said that the viral phenomenon of events that often appear in public spaces is a trigger for the press to follow up by applying journalistic principles.

"Pers carries out journalistic principles by verifying, validating, and ensuring that the information circulating is valid by implementing a cover of both sides," said Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives in the commission on politics, domestic government, land, and empowerment of the apparatus.

He believes that in the midst of the abundance of information circulating on social media on digital platforms, the press remains important to ensure that any information circulating in the public can be accounted for.

"The function of the press is irreplaceable in presenting valid information in the public," he said.

He assessed that the Indonesian press had succeeded in adapting to the massive digital development in the country. According to him, the adaptation of the press with digital platforms makes the press continue to exist in the midst of the digital era.

"Pers Indonesia has succeeded in adapting to digital platforms. The challenge is how to create a compatible press business climate amidst the rapid penetration of social media," he said.

For this reason, he also encouraged the Indonesian press to continue to grow and develop both in carrying out its functions as a pillar of democracy or in working on the media business.

"Hopefully the press in Indonesia will be more advanced and adaptive to this increasingly massive digital development," he said.
