Chance To Collaborate With Honda, Nissan Will Partner With This Company Instead
JAKARTA - Not long ago, Nissan was rumored to be canceling a partnership on the merger agreement with Honda. However, now they are open to opening cooperation with other companies.
Reportedly Reuters, Saturday, February 8, the manufacturer based in Yokohama, Japan has the opportunity to cooperate with a company from Taiwan, Foxconn.
Nissan is now open to working with new partners, including technology companies, as an effort to navigate the technological upheaval carried by electric vehicles, software-driven cars, and China's fast-moving new manufacturers.
The move is also in line with Foxconn wanting to expand its nascent electric vehicle contract manufacturing business. Previously, the company had approached Nissan regarding cooperation last December but was rejected.
Foxconn is now also running an electric vehicle business led by former senior Nissan executive Jun Seki. He was once seen as a competitor to become CEO of the well-known automotive manufacturer before Nissan appointed Makoto Uchida.
Meanwhile, spokeswomans Nissan and Honda declined to comment on the status of their talks, reiterating earlier's statement that they aimed to finalize future direction in mid-February. Foxconn did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Nissan has done various ways to deal with the difficult situation to stay in the auto industry globally, the way is by cutting 9,000 jobs worldwide and reducing global production capacity by 20 percent, although they did not provide details of the plan.
Not only that, Nissan also offers early retirement programs to employees at three of its US factories and reduces its workforce in Thailand as part of a reform plan.
