Prepare Umbrellas, Light Rain Is Forecasted To Fall In Most Regions Of Indonesia Today

JAKARTA Prepare an umbrella if traveling today because the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain will occur in big cities on Saturday, February 8. BMKG urges the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather that is still repeated and almost evenly distributed throughout Indonesia.

BMKG forecaster Satriana Roguna on the Youtube channel which was followed in Jakarta said that starting from Sumatra Island, the weather was predicted to be thick cloudy in Pekanbaru and Tanjung Pinang areas.

"As for the Banda Aceh, Medan, and Padang areas, light rain is forecast," he said as quoted by Antara.

Still on the island of Sumatra, the Jambi and Pangkal Pinang areas are forecasted to be thick cloudy, while Palembang and Bengkulu are forecasted for light rain.

"We need to be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning which is predicted to occur in the Bandar Lampung area," said Satriana.

Turning to Java, light rain is forecast in Serang, Bandung, and Yogyakarta, while in the Semarang region moderate rain is forecast.

"Be aware of the potential for rain that can be accompanied by lightning in the areas of Yogyakarta and Surabaya," he said.

Moving to the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, light rain is forecast for the Denpasar and Mataram areas, while people in Kupang City are asked to be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning.

Furthermore, it shifted to Kalimantan Island, predicted to be thick cloudy for the Pontianak area, light rain in the Palangkaraya and Samarinda areas, while people in Tanjung Selor and Banjarmasin were asked to be aware of rain accompanied by lightning.

Turning to Sulawesi Island, it is predicted that diversion or fog will occur in the Palu area. For the Gorontalo area, thick clouds are forecasted, while Kendari has light rain, and Makassar has moderate rain. "Be aware of the potential for thunderstorms in Mamuju and Manado," he said.

Moving to eastern Indonesia, it is predicted that thick clouds in the Ambon and Manokwari areas. For Ternate, Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya areas, light rain is forecast.

"Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in the Merauke area," he said.

Previously, the Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said that the rainy season is predicted to occur until the end of March 2025. "The rainy season is predicted to end until March, the end of March 2025, and April is the transition from rainy season to dry season. Well, then the peak of the rainy season in most parts of Indonesia occurs in January to February, so that currently it is still facing the peak of the rainy season," he said when met at the Central Jakarta Heritage Center, Wednesday, February 5.
