DeepSek Prohibition In Various Countries Will Be Difficult To APPly Because Of This

JAKARTA The use of DeepSeek, a popular Artificial Intelligence (AI) model over the past month, has caused concern in several countries. In fact, ChatGPT competitors are starting to be banned by the government.

So far, those who have banned the use of DeepSek are the US, Italian, and Australian governments. They are concerned about data security and the potential for sensitive information to China. However, this blocking will not go easy.

According to technology experts at Tenable, cybersecurity companies that take advantage of AI, blocking access to DeepSeek is not like limiting websites or mobile apps. This AI model can still be run through the cloud or integrated into the app.

"Prohibiting access to DeepSek's website and mobile apps is easy. However, because DeepSek LLM itself is open-source, blocking access to it is not that easy, because it can be run locally on devices," said Tenable Satnam Narang Senior Staff Research Engineer.

Therefore, Narang believes that this ban will not be implemented easily. Even though it is prohibited on government officials to protect sensitive state data, this AI model can still be accessed on private devices.

However, on the other hand, Narang understands the government's concerns. According to him, DeepSek has a security feature that is not good enough so exposure to sensitive information is very likely. This was proven by the leak of Deepsek data a few weeks ago.

"Another worrying aspect of DeepSeek is not only exposure to sensitive information, but also the lack of security features on the model, because it can be used for harmful or malicious purposes," Narang said in a statement received by VOI.
